One more use has been found for the ingenious Apple iPad: a remote control. Yes, you heard correctly, the Apple tablet computer serves as a remote control to program none other than DVRs running on the DISH Network. Users just need to download the free DISH Remote Access app from the iTunes Store in order to get started.

This app allows iPad users to program their DVRs, browse show schedules, and add or remove programs directly from the tablet computer. Most DISH receivers are compatible with this app so users should be able to get up and running without any issue. The version of the app specifically designed for the iPad includes a feature to control the DVR using the tablet computer.

Recording shows and managing the DVR can now occur anywhere the iPad is taken. Users who are at the office and remember that they will miss the game tonight can program the DVR to record it, using just one touch. They can also search the program guide up to nine days in advance, so they do not miss a thing.

Managing the DVR library is easily done by running this app on the iPad. Users can view and adjust their recording schedule, set priorities for recording, manage any conflicts, and delete shows they have already watched. Everyone in the family will be able to record their favorite shows, eliminating any fights over the television remote.

DISH Network subscribers who have an Apple iPad should go to the iTunes Store and download the free DISH Remote Access app. They will be able to control and program their DVRs directly from the tablet computer. This app eliminates the need to search for the remote in the couch cushions or in the drawer. Look for DISH to release the ability to stream live satellite television on the iPad sometime in September.
