It is no secret that many corporate IT departments are reluctant to let new technologies and hardware through their doors. IT professionals like to limit the number of company-approved devices and software. They do this for security reasons, to prevent things like computer viruses, but they also do it so they don’t need to troubleshoot many different brands of hardware.

The iPad may change all of this. Some believe that it is the device that will allow Apple to break the corporate IT barrier. The tablet computer is already very popular with the consumer market so supplementing this with increased sales to businesses would just be icing on the Apple cake, so to speak.
With the response that the iPad has received, it is clear that the tablet computer is not going away anytime soon. The device is compact and has a fast startup time, perfect for busy workers who are always on the go. It is being embraced overseas as it is rolled out to countries incrementally. Therefore, it will soon become more of a standard computing platform internationally.
The fact that the supply of iPads has now caught up with the demand for the device allows Apple to retain its stronghold on the market. Consumers who may have looked at competitor devices because the iPad was backordered can now purchase the Apple tablet and have it within the next business day. Apple has proven that it will do what it takes to stay successful.
Early success of the iPad with consumers has put Apple in a nice position with IT departments. Some believe the market for tablet computers may triple in 2011 and the iPad was the initiator of this trend. If an IT department has a great experience with the iPad, it may then purchase other Apple hardware for the company.
